Community Initiatives as a HR Tool

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) isn’t just about helping others. Building an image as a socially responsible organization also helps the company. Many clients prefer to deal with responsible businesses.

There are some important benefits in terms of employee engagement, too:

  • Reputation as a socially responsible organization makes it easier to recruit employees.
  • Employees involved in CSR are better networked, more productive and motivated. This is the key HR benefit as most of the HR managers struggle to increase employee motivation.
  • Employees stay longer reducing the hiring and training costs.
  • Activities such as involvement with the local community are ideal opportunities to generate positive press coverage and brand image.

Agree completely on the benefits overall – though I believe CSR is more a business tool than HR one. Its HR benefits are incidental, the key benefit a company can get is positive brand equity as you mentioned and improved perception of the company among investors / shareholders as well as community.
